Kimberley Community Legal Services Launches Survey to gather community voices on Public Housing Maintenance ahead of Government review

Broome, WA – 21 July 2025

Kimberley Community Legal Services (KCLS) has launched a new community survey to collect firsthand accounts from public housing tenants struggling with unresolved maintenance and repair issues.

As the only legal service on the ground in the Kimberley region supporting tenants with housing challenges, KCLS has heard countless stories from clients whose maintenance and repair needs have gone unmet – contributing to poor living conditions and deepening financial hardship.

With the WA Government currently reviewing how public housing maintenance is delivered across the state, KCLS says now is a critical moment for reform.

“This is a unique opportunity to push for a locally managed housing model—one that improves response times, reduces the burden on tenants, and puts decision-making back in the hands of the Kimberley community,” said KCLS CEO Christine Robinson.

KCLS is urging tenants, service providers, and community advocates to participate in the survey and share it widely. The stories and data gathered will inform a formal report and set of recommendations to the WA Government, to be released later this year.

“We know the issues are systemic, and we believe that by amplifying the voices of those directly affected, we can drive meaningful, region-led change,” CEO Christine Robinson added.

Community members and stakeholders who wish to contribute or learn more about the campaign can contact KCLS directly via (08) 9192 5177.
